The Grand Criminal Court issued a ruling Wednesday, sentencing a 24-year-old to death by hanging after he killed his sister by shooting her four times.

She died in the hospital soon after.

The court indicted the 24-year-old defendant, who has been in custody since October 2019, with the felony of premeditated murder.

The court decided to not allow the parents or the husband of the victim to drop the personal rights of the murderer, because the deceased has two young children.

Jordanian law allows for sentences to be halved if the victim’s family members drop their “personal right” for a harsher sentence — a regular occurence witnessed in the Kingdom.

The crime was committed October 2019 in the northern Shouneh region, and according to the court, the perpetrator had the murder planned.

According to court statements, the killer decided to kill his sister due to "suspected misbehavior."

He tried multiple times to kill his sister, the first one being when he took her into a bus and caused an accident. The perpetrator jumped out, but she survived.

In his second attempt, the perpetrator went to his sister's house, who was at home with her two young children while her husband was at work.

The killer cut off the electricity in attempts to get her out of the house, but she did not come out.

Half an hour later, he knocked on the door, and as she opened the door, he lunged towards her. She escaped into the bedroom, but it was too late.

He fired four bullets at her, hitting her thigh and back. She was treated and taken to hospital, where she later died.

After committing the crime, the killer took her infant daughter, who was less than a year old, and placed her on the doorstep of her grandparents' house.

He attempted to then persuade his younger brother to confess to the crime.

During the interrogations, the police did not believe the younger brother's account, and upon interrogting the killer, he confessed to the murder.
