The Minister of State for Media Affairs, and the spokesman for the Council of Ministers, Sakher Doudin, spoke Wednesday about the inevitability of a third coronavirus wave, especially with the presence of the Delta COVID-19 variant, which first emerged in India.

"This is based on scientific indicators," he said.

However, Dudin said that the new wave will not surge or be as rampant as the previous wave, "thanks to citizen awareness and willingness to receive vaccinations."

He indicated that reaching a safe summer is linked to several determinants, the most important of which is the increase in the number of vaccinations, adding that the higher the number of vaccine recipients, the greater the feeling of safety.

He noted the importance of public safety measure adherance, such as wearing face masks, social distancing, and using the 'Sanad' application when entering gatherings.

Dudin pointed out that the plan, in its three phases, will succeed, as the main criterion for its success is the number of vaccine recipients.

"As long as the citizen intends on getting vaccinated, we will reach the safe summer," said Dudin.

Roughly three months ago, the Kingdom was recording between 7,000 to 9,000 cases per day.
