Wednesday night, a drone attack targeted Erbil International Airport, near which the US Consulate is located. No casualties or material damage were recorded, according to the region's authorities.

The Counter-Terrorism Service in the Kurdistan region of Iraq said that the attack was carried out with a booby-trapped drone, which fell outside the walls of the airport.

The spokesperson for the US Department of Defense, Jessica McNulty, said that initial reports indicate that there was no material damage, injuries or deaths as a result of the missile attack in the city of Erbil.

Sirens sounded at the US Consulate in Erbil following the attack. Erbil airport has been subjected to several recent attacks by armed groups loyal to Iran.

The attack came a day after missile and drone attacks on Ain Al-Asad air base, which hosts US forces, and the US embassy in Baghdad.
