Spain adds Jordan to its 'Green List'

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation Arancha Gonzalez Laya held, on Monday, talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and on consolidating the Jordanian-European partnership.

In the talks hosted by the Spanish capital, Madrid, the two ministers affirmed the bilateral relations strategy, and the two countries' firm determination to intensify efforts aimed at deepening the Jordanian-Spanish relationship, which is witnessing continuous development, to serve the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.

Al-Safadi appreciated Spain’s decision to classify the Kingdom on the Green List, to increase communication and tourism and trade exchange between the two friendly countries, in light of the European Union’s recently issued decision to lift travel restrictions related to the Corona pandemic that were imposed on Jordan.

Al-Safadi stressed the importance of the existing bilateral cooperation with Spain in various fields, emphasizing the need to continue working to strengthen cooperation in the economic, development, investment, trade and tourism fields.

The Spanish Foreign Minister praised the solidity of Jordanian-Spanish relations, stressing her country's keenness to develop them in various fields, praising the Kingdom's active role in efforts to achieve security and stability in the region, and its great humanitarian role in hosting refugees.

In the talks, the two ministers reviewed developments in the region, foremost of which are those related to the Palestinian issue, and affirmed the determination to find a political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace, which Safadi affirmed that the only way is the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with Occupied Jerusalem as its capital on the June 4, 1967 lines. In this regard, Safadi praised Spain's firm position in support of the two-state solution.
