Two bodies were found among the rubble of a building that collapsed in Florida on June 24, bringing the death toll to 22, while 126 people are still missing, authorities announced Friday.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said she has signed off on the demolition of the part of the 12-storey building that remains standing, as it poses a threat to public health and safety. However, no date has yet been set for the demolition.

Levine Cava said the top priority remains search and rescue.

Rescue efforts were suspended for around 14 hours on Thursday, as the authorities were concerned about the stability of the remaining structure.

June 24, the 12-storey building of 55 apartments overlooking the ocean in Surfside, near Miami Beach, collapsed while residents were asleep inside.

The authorities and experts confirmed that the reasons for the collapse of the Champlain Tower are still unknown. But a report on the condition of the building early in 2018 indicated "significant structural damage" as well as "cracks" in the basement, according to documents released by the Surfside City Department on Friday evening.
