A bear attacked a tourist group at the Ergaki National Park in Sayan Mountains in Russia, during which a 16-year-old tour-guide went missing.

Two of the tourists searched for the boy and found him being attacked by the bear, one of whom stabbed it with a pocket knife.

Investigators later found the bear feasting on the boy's body and shot it.

Park Inspectors later found the bear lying on the remains of the deceased approximately half a kilometer away from the camping site.

According to a statement from the national park, the next morning, park staff spent hours tracking down the bear and later killed it.

The director of the national park Igor Gryazin said the boy had taken a short cut, which put him at risk. He added that the exceptionally long winter led to the pileup of thick snow, which prevented local bears from feeding properly.
