Saudi Arabia appoints ambassador to Qatar for first time since 2017

Monday, Saudi Arabia announced the appointment of its ambassador to Qatar for the first time since 2017. This came following the reconciliation between both countries.

In turn, Qatar News Agency revealed that Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, received a copy of the credentials of Prince Mansour bin Khalid bin Farhan Al Saud, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the country.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar wished the new ambassador success in performing his duties, assuring him of providing all support to advance bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries.

Jan. 5, The leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) signed in Saudi Arabia the Al-Ula statement, which Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said came "to affirm solidarity and stability" in the region.

In June 2017, Egypt, Bahrain, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia imposed a blockade on Qatar, accusing it of supporting Islamist groups and cozying up to Iran, which Qatar denies, causing a regional rift.
