Khaled Al-Othman, an owner of a fish farming project in Al-Dhalil, started this endeavor by creating a water harvesting project in 2019.

His main motive was his observation of the "great loss" of water during the winter, as the valleys and streams overflow with water without harvesting or benefiting from it in many areas.

In turn, Othman began collecting water through an artificial pond, by means of water harvesting, and making it liveable for 42 pairs of carp.

“I learned to fish after I raised fish,” Othman said in an interview with Al-Dar News, adding that the biggest problem he faced was securing fish food, as fish feed is one of the most expensive types of fodder for livestock and fisheries, with the price of one ton reaching JD 650.

Azolla, a plant that grows on land, also known as mosquito ferns, formed a solution to this problem.

On the side of the industrial pond, Othman found a place to grow the plant, to secure food for fish.

In a desert environment and little experience in fish farming, the project found support and sponsorship from the Ministry of Agriculture and its directors regarding fish farming and the treatment of diseases, which helped the project grow and achieve part of its economic viability.

Othman said, "I am a young man among the youth of Jordan, but if we, the youth, find government support, guidance and information support, and let's just say a complete mechanism and strategy to support the youth, we will produce and we will have fish production and we will do projects and we will succeed in all fields."
