The Israeli Occupation announced on Monday evening the abolition of the mandatory wearing of masks in closed public places starting Tuesday, one of the last measures still in force in the country to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

A statement by the Israeli Occupation Ministry of Health stated that "the obligation to wear masks will be abolished as of Tuesday, June 15."

At the beginning of this month, the Israeli Occupation eased health restrictions imposed on the population, but it kept strict measures imposed on visitors from abroad.

The borders of the Jewish state are still closed to foreigners, except for those who hold exemptions for compelling professional or family reasons.

At the end of December, the Israeli Occupation launched a large-scale vaccination campaign under an agreement with the giant pharmaceutical company Pfizer to provide it with millions of doses of vaccines in exchange for data on the effects of vaccination in this country, which has a digital medical database for its residents.

More than five million people out of 9.3 million people in the Israeli Occupation (55 percent of the population) have received both doses.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 839,000 people have been infected with Covid-19 in the Israeli Occupation, and 6,428 people have died, according to Health Ministry data.
