The municipality of Kortrijk, one of the largest cities in the Flemish-speaking province of western Belgium, Monday declared Palestinian citizenship a citizenship for children born to Palestinian parents.

And according to what was published by the Palestinian Ma’an Agency, the municipality changed the name of the nationality at the beginning of this year from “undefined” to “Palestinian," in an important political development in Belgium, which does not officially recognize the State of Palestine.

The municipality refused to comment immediately on this recognition, or its reflection on other cities and municipalities.

The Palestinian ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, Abdel Rahim Al-Farra, said that this recognition is a good and important development, even if it is at the municipal level of a city.
