Queen Elizabeth II welcomed US President Joe Biden on Sunday with a guard of honor followed by tea at Windsor Castle, west of London, at the conclusion of the G7 summit.

The 95-year-old queen, dressed in a floral dress and floral hat, accompanied Joe Biden and his wife Jill to a performance of the honor guard in their traditional red dress, wearing a black bear hat in the courtyard of the palace where she has been staying since the beginning of the pandemic.

After listening to the British and American national anthems played in the sun, they went in for tea before Biden left for Brussels, where the two are scheduled to participate in the NATO summit.

On the runway at Heathrow Airport before leaving the UK, Biden said he invited the Queen to the White House and added: "I don't think she would be offended, she reminded me of my mother."

The Queen attended a reception in Cornwall, southwest England, on Friday, at the start of the G7 summit, with Biden present.

She cut the cake with a sword and provoked a wave of laughter when she asked the leaders of the great powers at the memorial photo, saying: "Should we act as if we are having a good time?"

It is the Queen's most prominent engagement since the death in April of her husband Prince Philip, who would have turned 100 on June 10.

The Queen has met all successive US presidents during her 69-year reign, with the exception of Lyndon Johnson. She welcomed Biden's predecessor, Donald Trump, during a controversial state visit in June 2019.
