A specialized team of pediatric gastroenterology at Queen Rania Al Abdullah Hospital for Children in Al-Hussein Medical City (Royal Jordanian Medical Services - JRMS), performed several operations to remove foreign objects that had been swallowed by children through gastrointestinal endoscopies.

The Head of the Pediatric Department at Queen Rania Al-Abdullah Hospital, Abdullah Ghanma, explained that swallowing foreign objects is a common issue among children, especially those aged one to 10.

He added that different types of foreign objects have been removed from the children’s body, such as coins, glass balls, sharp objects and toy batteries.

The head of pediatric gastroenterology at the hospital, Muhammad Al-Rawla, indicated that the objects pose great danger to the life of children due to the serious complications they may cause.

Such objects may lead to esophageal narrowing or perforation of the esophagus, in addition to blockage in the intestines through coins.
