Merkel hails 'new momentum' in G7

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Sunday, on the last day of the G7 summit in Britain, that the arrival of Joe Biden to the White House gave "new impetus" to the group's work.

"The election of Joe Biden as president of the United States does not mean that we will no longer have problems in the world, but we can work with new momentum to solve them," Merkel, whose relations were very difficult with former US President Donald Trump, told the press.

The heads of state and government of Germany, France, Italy, Britain, Canada, Japan and the United States are currently meeting in England to discuss several key issues, including the pandemic, access to vaccines, an looming issues with China and Russia.
