At least 11 people were killed, including eight children after a residential building collapsed on top of another building in Mumbai Wednesday night, local officials announced.

Additionally, eight people were injured and taken to nearby hospitals.

The incident occurred close to midnight in a northern suburb of Mumbai.

Initial investigations say that heavy rains could have caused the collapse.
