Chest specialist warns of third wave, says PCR test may not detect mutations

Specialist in chest diseases, critical care and sleeping diseases, Dr. Muhammad Hassan Al-Tarawneh, warned of a new epidemic wave if the increase in the number of hospitalizations continues for two consecutive weeks.

On Roya's Donya ya Donya program, he said that the stability of the epidemiological situation should not create a false sense of safety for us, or allow us to be lax in adhering to public safety requirements.

He added that the emergence of different mutants in Jordan blurs the reality of the pandemic situation in the Kingdom as the PCR examination may not detect infection with different mutants. Other criteria for diagnosing COVID-19 include symptoms and radiographs of the lungs.

The high number of admissions to the hospital from those infected with the virus may be due to the low accuracy of the examination, especially with different mutations, he said.

He pointed out that both the Eid holiday and pro-Palestine rallies saw the mixing of different people, meaning we must be more cautious than ever in the face of the pandemic.

He called on the government to intensify vaccination campaigns, by increasing the number of vaccination centers and their working hours, so that we can cope with any expected wave of the epidemic.
