Health Minister addresses Jordanians on World No Tobacco Day

Monday, the Health Minister Feras Al-Hawari addressed Jordanians on the occasion of 'World No Tobacco Day,' stressing the need not to smoke in public places or indoors, especially in light of the coronavirus crisis.

He pointed out that studies have shown that smoking has a negative effect on the development of the disease, and increases the chances of requiring hospitalization and intensive medical care.

Hawari stressed the need to develop tools that help people quit smoking, in addition to regulations and legislation to support the aim of reducing the percentage of smokers in the Kingdom.

Hawari explained that smoking is one of the biggest causes of death in Jordan, as well as non-communicable diseases such as heart and lung diseases.

He noted that the ministry is taking serious steps through its smoking cessation clinics to help people quit smoking.

Notably, the ministry inaugurated a smoking cessation clinic in the Ministry of Health building on World No Tobacco Day.
