Friday, 24-year-old Palestinian journalist Zaina Halawani appeared in Israeli Occupation court with ankle shackles, much to the suprise and dismay of activists.
Halawani, along with her colleague Wahbi Makiya, were arrested while covering the illegal evictions in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Occupied East Jerusalem last week.
They were subsequently placed on 'administrative detention,' for five days, a commonplace tactic used within the Israeli Occupation wherein detained persons can be imprisoned without charge for extended periods of time.
According to Israeli Occupation NGO B'tselem, in September 2020, there were nearly 400 Palestinians held in administrative detention.
