2.9 magnitude earthquake hits Gulf of Oman

An earthquake measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale jolted the Sea of Oman early Monday morning.

The Seismological Center at Sultan Qaboos University reported, through its official Twitter account, that an earthquake measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale occurred in the Sea of Oman, at exactly 4:54 am local time.

The monitoring center stated that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km, at a distance of 19 km from the state of Dibba, without giving further details.

The states of the Sultanate are exposed to many earthquakes from time to time, but generally not cause any material and human damage.
