The World Health Organization confirmed, Thursday, that the currently available and approved vaccines are effective against "all variants of the virus."

The organization further called on people to continuing to move "cautiously" in the face of COVID-19.

Although the health situation in Europe is improving, international travel must still be avoided "in the face of a constant threat and new doubts," as Hans Kluge, director of the European branch of the World Health Organization, warned, especially those associated with the new version of the virus that was discovered in India but has spread to other countries. .

"The epidemic is not over yet," said Catherine Smallwood, WHO's emergency chief in Europe.

According to WHO data, the number of new infections decreased by 60 percent in one month throughout the region covering part of Central Asia, from 1.7 million in mid-April to 685,000 last week.

"We are moving in the right direction, but we must remain vigilant (...) Increased mobility, physical interactions and gatherings may lead to an increase in the transmission of infection in Europe," Kluge said.

In addition, the lifting of social restrictions must coincide with increased efforts in terms of testing, tracking and vaccination.

"There is no total absence of risks. Vaccines may be the light at the end of the tunnel, but this light should not blind us," Kluge said.
