Friday, French President Emmanuel Macron stressed the "urgent need for the return of peace" in the Middle East, emphasizing during a conversation with Israeli Occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "Israel's right to self-defense."

Macron offered his condolences to the victims of Hamas' missile attacks.

He also expressed his "concern for the civilian population in Gaza."

"On the anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel, the President of the Republic reiterated his firm commitment to Israel's security and its right to defend itself in accordance with international law," a statement from the French presidency read.

Since the renewed escalation on Monday, 119 Palestinians, including 31 children, have been killed in the Gaza Strip, and 830 others have been wounded, according to the local authorities.

In the Israeli Occupation, the Iron Dome intercepted about 90 percent of the nearly 1,800 rockets fired this week. Nine were killed.
