Thursday, France’s Minister of Interior, Gérald Darmanin, has asked French authorities to ban pro-Palestinian protests in Paris over the weekend in fears of a repeat of clashes during a similar situation in 2014.

Activists in France gathered in the Barbes district, northern Paris to demonstrate against the Israeli Occupations use of violent force in the Gaza Strip in response to Hamas' airstrikes on occupied territories, which Hamas said was in retaliation for the aggression towards Palestinians in Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

“I have asked the Paris police chief to ban the protests on Saturday linked to the recent tensions in the Middle East,” tweeted Darmanin.

“Serious disturbances to public order were seen in 2014,” said Darmin, who also requested the authorities in other regions of France to remain vigilant over similar protests.

In AFP video footage, Darmin was seen urging police officers to protect places of worship and other establishments in the Jewish community.
