The Russian president called Wednesday to reduce the escalation in the renewed conflict between Hamas and the Israeli Occupation during a conversation with his Turkish counterpart, who took a different stance and demanded that the Israeli Occupation be taught 'a lesson.'

Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed their "deep concern about the continuing fighting and the increase in the number of dead and wounded."

The Russian presidency added that the two leaders called on both sides to "de-escalate."

Putin maintains good relations with Israeli Occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian leaders and Erdogan.

Erdogan took a different tone in the conversation.

The Turkish presidency "stressed during this phone conversation that it is necessary for the international community to teach Israel a firm and deterrent lesson."

The Turkish president denounced "the blatant attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque and on the Palestinians," according to the same source.

Erdogan, a fierce defender of the Palestinian cause, stressed "the need to work on the idea of deploying an international protection force in the region in order to protect Palestinian civilians."

The UN Security Council will hold a new emergency session on Wednesday on the violence after it failed to agree on a joint statement Monday.
