Sunday, Instagram acknowledged a ‘technical’ glitch that saw the removal of several pro-Palestinian posts about Al Aqsa Mosque and Sheikh Jarrah, in the midst of egregious violence against Palestinians in Occupied Jerusalem.

Instagram said the issue did not target any particular content.

Several activists have said their posts were either blocked, or taken down. Others said their posts were reported as hate speech, and they received subsequent warnings that continued use of hate speech could lead to permanently suspended accounts.

“We apologize to all those who felt like they could not bring attention to these incredibly important causes, and many others around the world. Helping people express themselves and raise awareness on the conversations they care about is at the heart of Instagram,” tweeted Adam Mosseri, Instagram head.

Hundreds of Palestinians have been injured by Israeli Occupation police this week as they protest against illegal evictions in the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah. Friday night, over 200 were injured as they prayed outside the Al Aqsa compound.
