Friday, the World Health Organization (WHO) granted emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Chinese Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine, made in Beijing, according to WHO's director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The EUA listing for the jab, developed in partnership with the Beijing Institute of Biological Products, is for a two-dose regimen for all adults aged 18 and over, said Ghebreyesus.

Sinopharm is the first vaccine of any kind made in China to receive EUA from the WHO.

The approval means that the jab will be added to the WHO’s vaccine program COVAX.
