The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) denied rumors that said that 80 out of the 180 tourists who arrived from Bulgaria Saturday tested positive for COVID-19.

The deputy head of the ASEZA, Sharhabeel Madi, confirmed Sunday that only one woman from the arrivals tested positive for COVID-19, indicating that she has been subjected to institutional-quarantine at her own expense.

He stressed that she tested positive for the virus at least seven days before her arrival to Jordan.

It is not known why she was allowed on the plane. 

Madi pointed out that most of the tourists who arrived from Bulgaria had received the coronavirus vaccine back in their countries, while the others had taken the PCR test prior to arriving at King Hussein International Airport.

Saturday, the first charter plane from Bulgaria arrived at King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba, carrying 180 tourists.
