A 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit Saturday morning off the northeast coast of Japan, according to what the American and Japanese authorities announced.

They assured that there is no danger of a tsunami.

The US Geological Survey said the earthquake occurred at 10:27 (01:27 GMT) at a depth of 47 km in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Ishinomaki in Miyagi County, near the epicenter of the massive earthquake that struck the archipelago in 2011 and caused a devastating tsunami, killing nearly 20,000 people.
