Labor Minister affirms ministry's keenness on importance of investment to reduce unemployment

The Labor and Social Development Committee in the Senate, headed by Issa Murad, met Wednesday with the Minister of Labor, Yusef Al-Shamali, in the presence of the the Senate's Women's Committee Chair, Haifa Al-Najjar, to discuss the ministry's upcoming plan to enhance job opportunities in the Kingdom.

Murad said that the meeting aims to clarify the ministry's upcoming plans to reduce unemployment, including ways to enhance job opportunities through strategic partnerships with the private sector and rearranging the labor market, in addition to labor laws that concern the participation of women in the economic sector by examining trends and studies from neighboring countries.

Shamali affirmed the ministry's keenness on the importance of investment to reduce unemployment, and to work in partnership with the private sector through training, noting that the increase in the number of work permits has been linked to job creation to alleviate the unemployment crisis.

He pointed to the importance of efforts to overcome challenges and difficulties in creating job opportunities for Jordanian youth through coordination and cooperation between all concerned institutions by facilitating work permits while easing the current procedures in place to meet the demands of industries and markets.

Shamali stressed the importance of coordination between educational institutions and the professional environment, in order to facilitate the youth with what is required for their professional career.

He also pointed to the need to increase women's participation in the economic sector, and work on labor laws that preserve women's right to work.
