The head of the coronavirus portfolio at the Ministry of Health Adel Al-Belbisi explained Monday the government’s plan to deal with the Indian COVID-19 mutation.

He explained that non-Jordanians coming from India to the Kingdom must be subjected to a 14-day quarantine outside Jordan.

Jordanians will be subjected to a 14-day institutional quarantine.

Sunday, the government announced that all incoming flights from India to Jordan will be halted immediately.

Transport Minister Wajih Azayzeh said this was due to the mutated COVID-19 variant currently wreaking havoc on India, which the government wants to prevent from entering Jordan.

India has been recording record COVID-19 case numbers recently, causing several countries to close their borders to the country of over 1.3 billion.
