Monday, the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammed al-Khalaileh said that there are 7,136 mosques in Jordan, with an annual increase of approximately 150 mosques.

During a session at the House of Representatives, Khalaileh pointed out that a total of 1,439 mosques do not have imams and do not hold Friday Prayer. He noted that these 'randomly established' mosques are small and not affiliated with the ministry.

He stressed that anyone who has been working at mosques illegally has been removed. He added that new imams will be appointed as soon as the government allows them to do so.
