Water Ministry utilizes art to raise awareness of water consumption
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Water and Irrigation Omar Salameh told Roya that the ministry, in cooperation with the Water Company and the United States Agency for International Development, launched a project to draw artistic paintings on water tanks across the capital Amman.
The aim is to raise awareness among citizens about being mindful when it comes to water use, ahead of summer.
Salameh said that this campaign involves a number of Jordanian graffiti artists who volunteered for the cause.
According to Salameh, the campaign will use Arabic slogans that read 'Do not underestimate a drop,' 'Every drop is important,' 'Every drop of water counts,' and 'Let's conserve water.'
The ministry said the water is a critical issue this summer, especially with the limited rain the Kingdom witnessed over the winter season.
The ministry called on citizens through their official Facebook page to be understanding of the situation and rationalize water consumption.
The water deficit is estimated to reach appriximately 15 million cubic meters, according to the ministry. Additionally, the water reserve in Jordanian dams is 80 million cubic meters less than last year, especially in the dams designated for drinking water. This put a lot of pressure on the local authorities to secure sufficient quantities of water for citizens and residents across the Kingdom.
Salameh called on citizens to only use the water that reaches homes for its intended purpose and avoid using it to water plants in gardens or wash cars.
