Four detainees released in Al-Hussein Salt New Hospital incident

The Amman Magistrate's Court Wednesday released four detainees in connection with the Al-Hussein Salt New Hospital incident.

The decision came following the expiration of their detention period of 30 days.

April 15, the court released the Balqa Health director Wael Al-Azab, a mechanical engineer, and the Assistant Director of Al-Salt Governmental Hospital for Nursing Affairs, who were arrested along with 10 other individuals.

April 13, the court released the former director of Al-Hussein Salt New Hospital Abdulrazzaq al-Khashman along with four other staff members.

March 13, a technical defect in the Al-Hussein New Salt Hospital caused patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) to be cut off from oxygen, causing eight deaths and outrage in the Kingdom.

Thirteen officials were subsequently charged with seven counts of joint murder by association. Those charged included the then-Director of Al-Hussein New Salt Hospital; the Assistant Director of the hospital for services and supplies; an Administrative Doctor on-call; the Assistant Director for Administrative and Technical Affairs; a registered nurse; the Balqa Director of Health Affairs; the Assistant Director for Nursing Affairs; the head of the hospital's Medical Devices Department; the head of the Medical Gas Group at the Ministry of Health; the Secretary General at the Ministry of Health for Technical and Health Affairs; the Secretary General at the Ministry of Health for Technical and Health Affairs and Health Directorates; the Assistant Secretary General at the Ministry of Health for Services; and the Director of the Medical Engineering Directorate at the Ministry of Health.
