Thursday, hundreds of Palestinian citizens marched to commemorate the 73rd anniverary of the Nakba of 1948, also known as the Palestinian exodus, wherein around 800,000 Palestinians were forcibly driven out of their homes and villages to make way for the creation of the Israeli Occupation.

Notably, the Israeli Occupation celebrated their 'independence day' beginning Wednesday, in accordance with the Hebrew calendar.

In turn, the march and surrounding events have come to define the Israeli Occupation-Palestinian conflict.

According to the Middle East Eye, "Armed clashes began in late 1947, after the UN passed a resolution dividing the land between Jews and Palestinians, then escalated in 1948, when the new Israeli[-Occupation] state was proclaimed."

Amid the creation of the Israeli Occupation, Zionist armed forces removed Palestinians from their land on 15 May, 1948.

In light of the events, Palestinian citizens of the Israeli Occupation, whose families were uprooted during the 1948 war, visited their indigenous towns and villages that once housed their relatives.

As they have done for decades, they reiterated their desire to return to their land.

However, the original organizers of the annual Palestinian 'March of Return', The Association for the Defence of the Rights of the Displaced (ADRID), called on Palestinians and supporters to participate Thursday through online protests and demonstrations due to the pandemic.

Nonetheless, regardless of the COVID-19 restrictions, many in-person demonstrations commenced despite warnings of coronavirus infections.
