Thursday, instructions for flexible working hours for civil servants for the year 2021 were published.

According to these instructions, the system aims to increase efficiency by providing flexible working hours and enabling different governmental departments to provide their services outside their usual official working hours. This will also reduce the operating costs for these public departments and ensure the continuity of operations during emergency circumstances.

The most notable announcements are the different forms of flexible schedules for civil servants as follows:

  1. Flexible working hours: The relevant department schedules the start and end time of the employee's working hours, which total to the total number of official working hours stipulated in the system.
  2. Part-time: The reduction of official working hours/days provided that the weekly total is not less than 21 hours.
  3. Working remotely: The employee is asked to work from home or any other location that is not the employee's usual workplace. The employer must provide the technology/applications needed for the employee to perform their task remotely.
  4. Shifts: Implementing a shift-system for a group of employees that hold the same position or work within the same organizational unit to cover different shifts at the workplace or any alternative working site, in emergency cases.
