Sunday, the sound of church bells rang in all governorates of the Kingdom, rejoicing in the centenary of the establishment of the Jordanian state.

The Greek Orthodox Church held a prayer service to celebrate the historic national occasion.

His Eminence, Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church, and the president of Jordan Churches Council, Christoforos Atallah headed the prayer service at the Church of the Divine Assumption, Khalda.

The service was held according to the tradition of the Jerusalem Patriarchate on national holidays.

His Eminence noted what a great blessing the Kingdom is.

"The divine will intended that we meet on this day to celebrate the centenary of the founding of the Jordanian state, recalling the achievements of our ancestors and grandparents who established our Jordanian state ten decades ago. Our hearts are kindled with feelings of pride, as the children and grandchildren of Jordanians who preceded us, for what they sacrificed during the past hundred years for the sake of the elevation of this country, of pure blood that watered its soil and pure souls that scented its sky."

Atallah recalled Jordan's great forefathers who left "eternal fingerprints in history," noting that Sunday's celebration is a testament to Jordan's firm and unwavering principals since its establishment in 1921.

Atallah called on everyone to pray for Jordan and for the preservation of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the support of his army, and the preservation of his people, and for the various difficulties the nation is facing.

He expressed his gratitude towards His Majesty, and his solidarity towards the Christian and Islamic holy sites in Occupied Jerusalem.

"With all pride, we take this occasion to renew our allegiance and loyalty and rally us around its wise leadership, so that Jordan continues to be a model to be emulated in its unity, security, cultural achievements, and its great humanitarian stances."

His Eminence highlighted the stance of Hashemite royalty with the church, and the church's support as Muslims prepare to fast during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

A number of priests and deacons participated in the prayer without the presence of worshippers, in compliance with government decisions and in implementation of the defense orders, in order to preserve the safety of all.
