Palestinian film 'The Present' wins BAFTA award

This weekend, the Palestinian film 'The Present' won the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award for Best Short Film of 2020.

The film was also nominated for an Oscar in the Short Film (Live Action) category.

The short film was produced by Philistine Films with Farah Nabulsi as the director and Ossama Bawardi as the producer. 

On IMDB, the description of the film reads, "On his wedding anniversary, Yusef and his young daughter set out in the West Bank to buy his wife a gift. Between soldiers, segregated roads and checkpoints, how easy would it be to go shopping?"

In a virtual acceptance speech, Nablusi dedicated the BAFTA award to the Palestinian people saying, “For anyone who has seen The Present … you would know why I dedicate this award to the people of Palestine for whom freedom and equality is long, long overdue..."

According to the film's official Twitter account, the production team included "Team Director/Writer Farah Nabulsi, Writer/Editor Hind Shoufani, Producer Ossama Bawardi, Actor Saleh Bakri, Mayram Kanj, DoP Benoit Chamaillard, Art Nael Kanj, Sound Raja Dubayah, Adviser Annemarie Jacir," and others.
