Friday lockdown has not had any clear impact on containing COVID-19 cases: Al-Mohafaza

On Roya's Nabd Al Balad program Saturday, former minister and member of the National Committee for Epidemic Control Dr. Azmi Al-Mohafaza said that the epidemiological situation in Jordan continues to improve.

He said he expects a decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases in the next few days.

He stressed that it is not possible to determine the rate of herd immunity in Jordan except by conducting tests.

He said that a person who has had a mild infection with the virus does not have much immunity, and that scientific opinion recommends that those who have had a mild infection be given a single dose of the vaccine.

And he added, "We need to vaccinate three million people within two months, otherwise we will witness a third wave."

He further stated that a one-day-per-week lockdown does not have an impact on the epidemiological situation in Jordan, and that the Friday lockdown has shown no clear effect. He believes the recent decrease in cases is simply a result of the natural epidemic curve.

Lastly, he said that he supports extending the curfew for citizens because it reduces congestion and thus reduces the spread of COVID-19 in Jordan.
