Wednesday, Prime Minister Bisher al-Khasawneh issued Defense Order 29 for the year 2021, issued in accordance with the provisions of Defense Law 13 of the year 1992.

Defense Order 29 includes new measures to support the tourism sector that has been severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. These instructions support securing cash for the sector to mitigate the repercussions to enable its recovery.

It also allows the recovery of bank guarantees provided by tourism offices and Hajj and Umrah offices.

A bank guarantee is a type of guarantee from a lending organization.

The bank guarantee signifies that the lending institution ensures that the liabilities of a debtor are going to be met.

In other words, if the debtor fails to perform the obligation, the bank will cover it.

According to Defense Order 29, a request to restore bank guarantees to the Ministry of Tourism within all categories, including those providing Hajj and Umrah services, is submitted to the Ministry of Awqaf with regard to tourism offices whose work is limited to Hajj and Umrah services.

In order for the guarantees to be fully restored, there must be no complaints from the recipient of the service.
