The President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, issued a decree Saturday extending the state of emergency for coronavirus effective immediately for a period of 30 days.

The Palestinian Minister of Health, Mai Al-Kaila, announced Saturday that 24 coronavirus deaths, and 1,691 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

The Palestinian vaccine campaign began in March, but is off to a slow start, with just over 90,000 citizens having received at least one dose of a vaccine.

Hospital occupancy rates circle dangerously close to 100 percent, with highly contagious mutated variants common in the population.
