Monday, Jordan's Textile and Readymade Clothes Syndicate called on the government to reduce the overnight curfew hours as soon as possible. The syndicate says the decision should be linked to the COVID-19 situation in the Kingdom and reassessed every two weeks.

The statement said the decision to keep the overnight curfew hours in effect until May 15 is a 'fatal blow' to the commercial sector. It added that it leads to increasing the losses, shops going out of business, layoffs and bankruptcy.

The syndicate noted that Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr are an important period for business owners to make up for some of the losses they endured due to the coronavirus crisis. During this period, local businesses hope to get increased cash flow to meet their financial obligations including rent, employee salaries, bills, social security installments, tax and customs, licensing fees, and other operational costs.

The syndicate stressed the need to work together in light of the current circumstances and called on the government to take the private sector into consideration when making decisions in order to get out of the current health and economic crises with the least possible losses.
