The head of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, Khalil Hajj Tawfiq, indicated that large commercial sectors have stopped dealing with checks, after the government issued Defense Order No. 28 related to the debtor's imprisonment.

This came during a meeting of the Parliament’s recommendations follow-up committee with Finance Minister Mohammad Al-Issis.

Hajj Tawfiq described the government's move as "dangerous" for the entire sector.

Sunday, Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh issued a decision to suspend the implementation of imprisonment procedures against debtors until the end of 2021, according to what was announced by the Minister of State for Media Affairs, Sakher Dudin.

Dudin said that the decision issued by Khasawneh, based on the Defense Law, "allows for the continuation of litigation procedures, and a request to establish the rights between the creditor and the debtor, without implementing imprisonment procedures against the debtor, until 12/31/2021, with confirmation that the debtor is prohibited from traveling until the debt is eliminated."
