The government announced Monday that April 11 will be an official holiday in Jordan, in celebration of the country's centenary.

April 11 falls on a Sunday, therefore allowing for a long weekend.

The government wished to declare this day a holiday in order to allow families the opportunity to enjoy the spring and quality time together, especially after they extended COVID-19 restrictions including the Friday lockdown and curfew until May 15.

The government said this official holiday marks the centenary while April 16 is a national day for the Jordanian flag, noting that the mass celebrations marking the centenary were carried over until after May due to the circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Ministry of Culture stated that it will allocate all its creative projects this year to be included in the celebration of the centennial of the Jordanian state, including the National Song Festival and Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts.
