Sunday, the Minister of State for Media Affairs and the official spokesperson for the government Sakher Dudin said during a press briefing at the Prime Ministry that the Prime Minister Bisher al-Khasawneh decided to extend the implementation of the current COVID-19 measures until May 15.

The current measures include the total lockdown on Fridays, the overnight curfew and the closure of different sectors.

Dudin said that Jordan has been witnessing a huge increase in the number of coronavirus cases during the past few weeks, calling it ‘worrying.’

“Unfortunately the number of [COVID-19] deaths remains high,” he said.

He added that Jordanian hospitals are overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients.

Dudin announced that Jordan recorded 82 new coronavirus deaths and 7,183 cases Sunday, which calls for extra precaution.

He called on citizens and residents of Jordan to register for vaccination, stressing that Jordan has the capacity to vaccinate 30,000 people per day. However, the Kingdom is aiming to increase that number to 50,000 per day.

He added that COVID-19 vaccination sites are witnessing a good turnout.

He noted that more than 839,000 people have registered to receive a coronavirus vaccine, adding that around 88,000 people received both doses of the vaccine.

He added that around 37,000 medical personnel have received the vaccine.

The government has secured 10.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
