On the 17th anniversary of the assassination of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the founder of Hamas, Facebook users were suprised to learn that the social networking site banned mention of the Sheikh's name. 

Facebook often polices Palestinian activism on its platform, and has previously mulled adding 'Zionism' to a protected hate speech category. 

Facebook considers many tools of Palestinian activism to be 'inciting terrorism.'

Yassin had a distinguished spiritual and political status among the resistance ranks. This made him one of the most important symbols of patriotism throughout the last century, and a leader that the Palestinian people loved and respected most in the world.
