As the Syrian crisis marks its tenth anniversary, and as part of Save the Children continuous efforts to protect and improve the quality of life of Syrian refugee children and their families, and enable them to shape a brighter future, Save the Children Jordan and the global Save the Children movement launched a new campaign titled “The Last Possessions” in partnership with VMLY&R that aims to unify all efforts to protect the lives of Syrian children, their families, and their communities in the Zaatari Refugee Camp, in light of the current difficult conditions.

Since the opening of the Zaatari Refugee Camp in 2011, the largest camp hosting Syrian refugees worldwide, Save the Children designed and implemented a large variety of programs in the camp aimd at offering educational and protection interventions for children, improving the livelihoods of youth and women, and providing health and nutrition services to ensure a holistic and a meaningful impact for them.

In light of the global outbreak of the COVID pandemic and its repercussions, the challenges faced by the Syrian children and their families in refugee camps have increased, which called for more focused and joint efforts to confront them.

The initiative is inspired by the last items that Syrian children carried with them as they fled their home country and kept these possessions safe and took care of them for over a decade. These simple items such as a blanket, a soccer ball, or a comb, and many others hold many painful and inspiring stories. Save the Children Jordan and VMLY&R collected pictures of these possessions to be presented in a book.

Interested individuals and enterprises can directly contribute to the campaign and support children and their families in Zaatari Refugee Camp through the following link https://thelastpossessions.org . These contributions will allow them to be part of achieving a positive change in the lives of Syrian children and their families in the Zaatari refugee camp.
