New batches of COVID-19 vaccines arrive in Palestine

The Palestinian Minister of Health Mai Al-Kailah announced Wednesday the arrival of COVID-19 vaccine batches through the COVAX Initiative in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, containing 37,440 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and 24,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Kailah stated that the national vaccination campaign will be launched Sunday, March 21, in the presence of the Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh, the representative of the European Union in Palestine, as well as the Commissioner-General of the United Nations, and representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

Kaila added that the priority to receive a COVID-19 vaccine will be given to those aged 75 and over, dialysis patients and cancer patients.

Wednesday, Palestine confirmed 2,193 new coronavirus cases and 29 deaths.
