Monday, Los Angeles began reopening its gyms, movie theatres, and indoor dining facilities after months of coronavirus-related closures.

Residents and business owners hope that the reopenings will give the economy a needed boost.

LA, which has been experiencing a drop in coronavirus numbers after a deadly December, was able to reopen after coming out of the 'purple zone' and into the 'red zone' in the county's coronavirus roadmap.

The purple zone is considered the most dangerous alert level, whereas red indicates less severity in the crisis.

LA schools can now opt to have their 7th-12th graders return to in-person learning.

Friday, California met its goal of vaccinating two million state residents.
