Tuesday, gunmen ambushed a bus carrying university staff in northeastern Afghanistan killing the driver and a student, according to officials.

Additionally, six university lecturers were injured during the attack in Baghlan province, said the spokesperson for the Afghan Ministry of Interior Sayed Hamid Rushan.

The ministry blamed the Taliban for the attack, however, the militant group denied involvement.

“The attack...has nothing to do with our mujahideen (fighters), we condemn the attack and consider it as a conspiracy of the enemy,” said Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesperson.

Investigations are currently underway.
