Saturday, an informed medical sources told Roya that the a technical defect in the Al-Hussein New Salt Hospital has caused patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the hospital to be cut off from oxygen, therefore reporting a number of deaths among patients on ventilators in the ICU.

The Minister of Health, Nathir Obeidat first confirmed that the incident left six people dead, all of whom are coronavirus patients.

Shortly after, the Director of the National Center for Forensic Medicine, Adnan Abbas, announced the death of another victim, therefore bringing the death toll to seven.

Abbas revealed to Roya that the causes of all the death were due to heart failure and lack of oxygen due to pneumonia resulting from complications of their infection with the coronavirus.

In turn, the Forensic Medicine department told Roya that the seven deaths belonged to four men and three women.

They noted that the bodies of the victims will be handed over to their families to prepare for burials.

Although, nothing is yet known, a Roya correspondent reported that sources located at the hospital are claiming that there are more deaths than announced.

Meanwhile, Obeidat, went to the hospital to follow up on the developments of the incident to find out its causes and later announced that the issue has been "resolved," by using existing stocks of oxygen cylinders from the hospital.

Additionally, His Majesty King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah also went to the hospital, wherein he ordered for the dismissal of the hospital's Director, Abdelrazaq Al-Khashman.

Notably, the Minister of State for Media Affairs, Sakher Dudin, told Roya that Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh had ordered an immediate investigation into the incident at the hospital, and upon Royal orders, Obeidat was ordered to hand in his resignation.

Obeidat declared that he bears a moral responsibility towards the incident.
