Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee and Chief Scientific Officer at Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Paul Stoffels said in an interview with the Italian newspaper 'Corriere della Sera' Friday that the company's COVID-19 vaccine is effective against all coronavirus mutations.

Thursday, the European Union's (EU) medicines regulator, the European Medicines Agency (EMA), recommended the authorization of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine, according to CNN.

The EMA's decision was announced amid vaccine shortages across all 27-member states of the EU.

The EMA released a statement saying "After a thorough evaluation, EMA's human medicines committee concluded by consensus that the data on the vaccine were robust and met the criteria for efficacy, safety and quality."

The J&J vaccine will be the fourth to be authorized by the EU after the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and the Moderna vaccine.
