The head of the coronavirus portfolio and Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health Wael al-Hayajneh Tuesday said a total of 300,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines are guaranteed to arrive in Jordan by the end of March.

He confirmed that Jordan will receive half a million doses of the vaccine in the second quarter of the year, 800,000 in the third quarter and half a million in the last quarter.

Hayajneh confirmed that Jordan has reached agreements with several companies to import huge quantities of different coronavirus vaccines, in addition to an agreement as part of the global COVAX program to acquire two million doses of the vaccine.

Hayajneh said the vaccination program could spare Jordan from a third or fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

He pointed out that the Kingdom is committed to follow the World Health Organization's (WHO) instructions, which stipulate that the least acceptable effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines is 60 percent.

He noted that 160,000 doses of different COVID-19 vaccines have been dispensed in Jordan since the beginning of the year.

He mentioned that the ministry sent out 21,000 messages to citizens who met the vaccination requirements Sunday, 9,300 Monday, and 18,0000 Tuesday. He added that Jordan can vaccinate a greater number of citizens in one day and is currently working on increasing that number.
